Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to do before taking lessons?
You must be at a legal age to drive and hold a valid Provisional Licence. For most people, the minimum age that you can legally drive on a public road is 17. If you receive higher rate mobility allowance though, you can drive from the age of 16. Information on applying for a Provisional Licence can be found on the gov.uk website. You must also be able to read an old style number plate at 20.5 metres or a new style plate at 20 metres. You are allowed to wear corrective eye wear to do this, but you must then continue to wear them for lessons and your test.

Do I have to pass my theory test before starting lessons?
No. But you must pass your theory test to be able to book and take your practical test. It is best to study for your theory test and take it as soon as possible, then you can put into practice what you have learned when taking your lessons and you’ll pass your driving test as soon as possible.

What do I need to take with me to my lessons?
Have your provisional licence with you and wear any contact lenses or glasses if needed. Also wear comfortable clothing and shoes (no high heels) and shoes with thick soles should be avoided as they will make it significantly more difficult to use the foot controls correctly.

I’m nervous about taking lessons. Will my instructor be patient and calm?
Yes. All of our instructors are extremely helpful, patient and easy going. They will do their best to put you at ease and make your lessons enjoyable, safe and stress free.

How many lessons will I need to pass my test?
It is impossible to say as it can vary greatly from person to person. However, according to the DVSA, it takes on average around 44 hours of professional lessons plus 20 hours of private practice for someone to pass their test. Your driving instructor will keep you updated on your progress and advise you on when you should book your test.

How long lessons should I take?
The majority of our lessons are based on a 2 hour period. It has been proven that an individual will learn quicker and require fewer lessons than they would learning at the rate of 1 hour a week. This will work out financially cheaper taking 2 hour lessons as opposed to 1 hour a week.

The learning cycle based on 2 hour weekly lesson and progressing at a steady rate should take between 4-6 months. If learning with only 1 hour a week then the average learner will take nearly 12 months to reach test standard.

What is the cheapest way of booking my driving lessons?
You should take advantage of our discounts, which are available on block-bookings

When should I apply for my test?
